The Non-Destructive Coral Health Monitoring Homepage
Welcome to the Non-Destructive Coral Health Monitoring Home Page. In this site you will find: scientific information on corals and their symbiotic zooxanthellae, a gallery of my underwater and coral fluorescent photography, recent papers I have worked on or written (including 2 publications I produced for the National Sea Grant College Program and 1 publication for the National Undersea Research Program), a set of links to some other places on the web to find information about coral reefs and my current Curriculum Vita (CV).

This site began as a home page for my Senior Thesis at St. Mary's College of Maryland. For my senior thesis I investigated a non-destructive method of assessing coral health utilizing induced fluorescence and a spectrophotographic technique. The final paper for that project can be found here. Since my graduation from St. Maryıs in 1997, I have been continuing my research into coral health and more specifically coral fluorescence.

Thus far in 1998 I have traveled to Grand Cayman, Belize and the Bahamas to photograph corals and coral fluorescence in an attempt to better understand what if any physiological significance can be found in fluorescent patterns of symbiotic cnidarians. During the trip to Grand Cayman in January of 1998 I attended a workshop seminar series on underwater photography and biological illustration run by Cindy Shaw and Frank Illipold where I was asked to provide an ecological perspective on coral reefs to the other attendees. Examples of my photographs from Grand Cayman can be found in the site gallery. During the spring semester of 1998 I was a teaching assistant at St. Maryıs College for the Tropical Marine Biology Class and traveled with them to Glovers Reef, Belize. While on Glovers I continued my fluorescent photography work and general underwater photography. In the Bahamas, I was able to shoot some fluorescent and general underwater photography to further my understanding of coral reefs.

All of my current funding is being provided by Innovative Cyber Solutions, a small internet consulting/web page development firm I am currently running while searching for a MS / Ph.D. program to continue my research in coral fluorescence.

The following two papers are comprehensive lists of projects and reports produced under the National Sea Grant College Program. The List of Projects spans from 1990 until the present where as the list of Publications covers the entire 20 plus years of Sea Grant opperation.

Funds provided by the National Sea Grant College Program helped to fund my Senior Thesis.
